Outsiders enjoyable all around

This year’s fall play was The Outsiders. On Nov. 18 and 19, talented high school students performed in front of the Dover community. The cast, staff, and stage crew did an outstanding job with the overall production.

The Outsiders centered around troubled teenagers from different socioeconomic backgrounds that struggled to coexist with each other. The two groups that never got along were the “greasers” and “socs”. These characters were easy to relate to as many of them faced the challenges many adolescents face, including family, discovering themselves, and trying to fit in. Junior Brooke Pierce, who played Sally, said, “I definitely can relate to the way the group relies on each other for support. As well as the way that the characters interact with each other, [particularly] Ponyboy’s relationship with his brothers.”

The cast did such an amazing job portraying the different characters. Personally, Dallas was one of my favorite characters when I originally read the book a couple of years ago, and loved the way junior Eliza Burrage portrayed his aggressive style. I also found the rumble between the socs and greasers to be very humorous.

The choreographed punches and slaps definitely contributed to the dramatic effect the audience anticipated to watch. Senior Jensen Glatfelter, who played Ponyboy stated, “[One of the] memorable moments I had was getting slapped in the face and fake crying…” The cast had great chemistry together!

Many of the cast and stage crew members explained the lovely time and memories they made throughout their time together learning each scene. Pierce stated, “The best part about joining was definitely meeting new people and the community there is.”

Additionally, the aesthetics of the play were truly beautiful, and the set was absolutely charming. The most interesting aspect of the set was how it was one complete layout that never changed—the living room, fountain, movie theaters, and more never moved. It was actually the lights that focused on different areas for each specific scene, changing direction when necessary; it was really cool to watch.

The students did admirable work, and all their dedication to this play paid off last Friday and Saturday. There was not a single moment of boredom, every second was enjoyable!
