Dover Vet Science Team Places Second at States

Hunter Golder, Staff Writer

Our Veterinary Science Team is making everyone PROUD, placing second in a statewide event! The Veterinary Science Team, which is a branch of Dover’s FFA Chapter, competed in a statewide Career Development Event hosted by The National FFA Organization. At the event, Dover’s Veterinary Science Team had to identify different animal species, calculate medicine dosages, and even got hands-on, correctly putting cats into carriers and muzzling dogs.

Multiple branches of Dover’s FFA competed in the Career Development Event, but none were as successful as the Veterinary Science Team. According to FFA Advisor Alexandra Barzydlo, “Our team for Veterinary Science had the highest success at States this year and came in second place.” The members of the team who competed at States included senior Jayce Corbin, graduate Brianna Grim, junior Willow Smith, and graduate Amelia Wilt. They were joined by Veterinary Science Team Coach Britney Marsh.

The Veterinary Science Team’s impressive performance earned them an opportunity to represent the state of Pennsylvania at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, Massachusetts in September. Wilt was replaced by alternate senior Jordyn Hennessey. Barzydlo chaperoned. Dover did not place high enough in the rankings to be mentioned at the Awards Banquet, and their specific ranking has not yet been released.
