DECA takes on Philly

DECA+takes+on+Philly
Dover DECA President Ankhet Whyte won one of three $1,000 scholarships at the 76ers game.

On Monday, November 6 DECA went on a group trip to the 76ers game and a tour of Lincoln Financial Field. Students were given the opportunity to learn more about marketing, specifically in the sports marketing area.

DECA advisor Loni Kress said, “I think the trip went very well and was very informative. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a role play scenario: how to increase attendance at 76ers games.”

Kress said, “They are given opportunities to be in charge… to develop an idea, see it through, and learn from it so they can grow into the leaders we need today and tomorrow.”

Kress believes DECA provides a great learning experience for students that want to have a career in marketing. Senior DECA member Emily Ryen agrees. She said, “I learned a lot of lifelong skills and learned a lot about the skills needed to have a career in marketing.”

Ryen also said, “I thought it would give me a great experience for college and prepare me to join a group in college as well.”

Ryen believes that joining DECA would help with improving your skills in marketing, public speaking and would help her in college moving forward. Ryen said, “I have benefitted from being in DECA. This is because it educates me a lot about communicating, and helps me to be comfortable in public speaking.”

Senior DECA president Ankhet-Nu Whyte was awarded a $1000 scholarship on the trip. She said, “By receiving the scholarship, I know what I am doing matters and is benefiting my chapter members. It also served as motivation to keep leading efficiently and striving for a noteworthy year in Dover DECA.”

Whyte thinks there is a lot to be learned from DECA membership. She said, “In DECA I have learned a plethora of skills including self dependence, leadership, public speaking, marketing, and general business knowledge.”
