Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) has just surpasssed 100 members. DECA teaches leadership and management skills along with social skills. It is beneficial for students wanting to go into business in college, but any student is able to join who is interested.

DECA has been a part of Dover Area High School since 2014. DECA adviser Loni Kress said, “I became involved the following school year as I had a few of the members in my classes. I helped them with their business plan, and they went all the way to becoming an International finalist. I was hooked with how this organization can push kids to do amazing things!”

Senior DECA member Naomi Smith says, “I got involved in DECA because I wanted to learn more about business. I had always wanted to own my own business one day and DECA has helped me to learn more about business and marketing along with giving me more and more opportunities to learn more.”

DECA is important because of the things you’re taught for later life purposes and the goals they’ve accomplish. They’ve helped support and give back to the school, people and causes in need. Some of the fundraisers help with club activities while also teaching lessons. Some events held this year were Ryan’s Hope and a Duck Donuts fundraiser.

Kress said, “Our current fundraiser is Duck Donuts. 54 of our members participated and we sold 396 dozen donuts that arrive next week! We will have a Duck fundraiser again in the spring. Not having a Duck Donuts close by makes this a successful fundraiser as many people love the product!”
