Aevidum Strives for Change

Carson Keaton, Staff Writer

There are lots of clubs that students can get involved with. Our Aevidum club is one that aims to help students with their mental health by encouraging students to feel comfortable expressing their feelings.

Aevidum leader Shannon Mort had personal reasons for getting involved. She said, “I have had students that have completed suicide, and I wanted to do something to stop this from happening in the future.”

Mort hopes to make students comfortable talking about what’s going on in their lives, and that it is better to say something rather than letting it build up within themselves before it comes out as something negative or harmful. She encourages students “To have one day a month to do something that helps them mentally.”

Aevidum member Jensen Glatfelter says “Mental health and drug abuse have been close to me. And I want to see a change made in the world as it’s a very serious issue… Mental Health affects your day and how you do in school. It affects your mood and your emotions.”

The goal of Aevidum is to give students the opportunity to talk about what is going on in their lives. Glatfelter says, “Our job as Aevidum is to make sure Students know that they aren’t alone. We give students different outlets and resources to help students take care.”

Glatfelter feels they need to better inform students about this program and wishes more students would get involved.

If you have interest in joining the Aevidum program this year, see Mort in room 243 or Teri Marlowe in room 217 to get signed up for Remind and to join the Schoology page.
