The Dover Area High School band will be holding its spring band concert the weekend of May 17 at 7 p.m. The event is open to all students and their families. The song choices for the concert were ultimately chosen by band director Matthew Guadagnino, but the students were asked to choose some pieces that they would like to play.
Guadagnino looked through the students’ recommendations and picked a few songs. “Their answers also helped me decide what style or genre they may be interested in playing,” he says. “The music has a wide range- from Wicked scores to a Spanish march. The band has put in a lot of work over the semester to memorize their music to put on the best concert they can.”
The band has a rehearsal each school day during fourth period to prepare for the concert, alongside playing tests throughout the semester to ensure students know their music.
Junior Abigail Linebarier commented on the band’s performance. “I think the ensemble as a whole encountered some timing issues as the concert date approached.”
Trips and activities were occurring during the time of concert preparation that competed for the attention and attendance of the band members. Linebarier says she faced some struggles in preparation for the concert due to scheduling conflicts with extracurriculars.
The school jazz band will also be performing pieces. All facets of the DAHS band are prepared and ready to perform.
