Juniors Addyson Krug and Bailey Lebo participated in Future Leaders of York this year, which consists of charity work, regular meetings and a full day event in Millersville. The FLY program includes several sessions on leadership skills and how to help lead groups, small and large. The program is involved with charity work across York County.
Krug and Lebo were chosen to represent Dover because of their leadership skills and FLY aims to build their leadership skills and connect them with other young leaders from across the county.
Both Krug and Lebo are involved with various extracurriculars at Dover, including girls’ soccer and bocce for Krug, and girls’ lacrosse and being an Eagle Ambassador for Lebo. Their involvement in these activities helped them develop the skills that got them into the program.
Krug said, “My biggest community involvement was helping to choose which charities to award grant money to.” This involved a process of selecting charities and narrowing down which ones met specific requirements to receive the grants.
Lebo helped with cleaning Olivia’s House. “We cleaned it to help ensure safe, clean standards for the next kids that come in,” she said. Olivia’s House is “a grief and loss center for kids and teens.” Lebo and the group of other leaders from high schools around the county worked together to make the charity a better place.
This program sheds a positive light on young people and allows them to grow their leadership skills while benefiting the York community.
