Smyser Sets All-Time Receiving Record

Senior Thomas Smyser had a fantastic week, breaking the all-time receiving yards record for Dover Area High School as well as being named the YAIAA Player of the Week. He had six catches for 203 yards in last week’s game.

The previous record holder Ron Sanger set the record in 1989 at 1,349 yards. Smyser surpassed him this week and is closing in on the receptions record set by Jim Smith in 1991.

Smyser has been playing football since he was six years old; even early on it was apparent he had talent. Smyser claims his biggest strengths are his “speed and vision.”

Receiver coach Marc Dellinger says, “Thomas is a unique player because of his skill sets he brings to the field every Friday night the combination of speed route running and hands he is a special player.”

Smyser hopes to finish out his senior season with a district or state title. After high school, his goal is to play football for an Ivy League program and get a four year degree.
