Boys Soccer Takes Victory in Overtime

On the night of September 14, 2023, our boys’ soccer team took on Red Land, defeating them 2-1 in overtime. With 41 seconds left in the overtime period, sophomore Nathan Miller scored the game winning goal.

Miller says he felt as though it was like every other game. “It felt like every other game day. Making the same preparations and warmups as always. I was a little nervous going into the game, but that’s no new feeling for me.” He was more excited to play the game that he loves, so he looked past the nerves.

Senior Aiden Shepro scored the first goal of the game in the 27th minute. “It felt energizing to score that first goal as it gave us all more of a reason to play harder.” He was glad he could set a tone for the boys and get momentum going for the game.

Talking about scoring the game winning goal, Miller says, “As I watched the ball fly into the net I couldn’t believe that I really just scored. Running to the corner with the team celebrating all around me I got a new sensation.”

Shepro believes that they can be a competitive team. “As the season progresses, we are hoping to beat the teams we have yet to play and give good competition back to the teams we have already played.” Their defense is getting better and shutting down the offense, and the offense is getting more opportunities to score.
