On Dec. 30, the Pennsylvania football writers announced the All State awards for Division 5a. Junior Thomas Smyser received the award for wide receivers. He was one of four to receive the award for receivers.

Smyser was recognized several times last season. Of this award, he said, “I feel pretty good, it’s an honor being on that list considering all of the great wide receivers Pennsylvania has in 5a.” Smyser appreciates the coaches that nominated him and that helped him throughout the season, as well as junior quarterback Aric Campbell and the entire offensive line, as without them he would not be where he is.

Smyser also explains that he felt the team worked hard throughout the season. “The team this year was very disciplined and hardworking. We had only a few ineligible players throughout the season and just a couple injuries, so most guys played the whole season,” he said.

Smyser made contributions on both side of the ball last season. He said, “I helped on both offense and defense being all-county defensive back along with all-state wide receiver.”

During his senior year, Smyser hopes to keep his and the team’s momentum going. “I’m looking forward to heading back to the playoffs and redeeming our second round loss from this year. I’m also looking forward to breaking my previous single-season receiving record at Dover from this year and picking up a couple offers from some colleges.”
