Senior running back Gavin Mullins was recently nominated for Gametime Athlete of the Week.

Mullins was ecstatic to be nominated and beyond excited to meet one of his goals for the season. Mullins states, “Being chosen, it felt good. It was one of my goals at the beginning of the season, so it was nice to have accomplished that.”

Mullins explains that this season went better then expected and that was because of his strenuous training as he bettered himself as a player. He stated that he “practiced all over the summer, and even the end of last year during the morning.”

Mullins says that his most successful play would have had to be his 80 yard touchdown against Garden Spot. “That is my longest all season, and it was one of my top plays… As soon as Aric (Campbell) called the play, once I lined up and looked at the defense I knew I was gonna be wide open. “

Mullins stated that he was able to make the play happen with his speed and the corner giving him the inside to work with. He said, “I used a little stutter step to slow him down then he dove at me and I used my left hand to kind of get him off, broke the tackle and scored.”
