First Friday offers family fun

John Bubb, Staff Writer

It’s the first Friday of the month; the street lights are shining; shops are open late; and live music can be heard throughout the packed streets. This is the scene in downtown York on the first Friday of every month, a scene I got to witness myself just last week.

My first stop was in the Market District which is home to countless stores, restaurants, and is just down the street from PeoplesBank Park, home to the York Revolution.

Market District is anchored by the York Central Market House, a public market in which different vendors sell everything from homemade apple cider and pie, to beaded bracelets, local artwork, gyros and everything in between.

If buying things from vendors isn’t enough for you, live music can often be found in the Market’s central dining area.  After spending some time there, I made my way to a few of the shops in the area.

One such shop that I visited was Artemis Vintage, a vintage/second-hand clothing store run by Jenna Marshall, and her husband Aaron, with their sister location Boho Bella just a block away. I got an opportunity to sit down with Jenna for a quick moment, who told me a lot about how York has changed within the past few years.

If you’re interested in getting to know some interesting people, discovering new reasutants, and supporting local musicians and artists, stop by downtown York sometime, and make sure to stay late on the first Friday of every month.
