Washington Township students in limbo

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has denied Dover Area School District’s appeal to keep Washington Township students from having to transfer to the Northern York County School district. Starting in the 2021-2022 school year, the students who have not applied to stay in DASD, will be going to NYCSD.

“This transfer has made students feel completely worthless,” said junior Mackenzie Emig, who had to apply to stay at Dover. DASD students not currently in high school with siblings that attend DAHS are also affected in the transfer as well. The younger students are able to stay at DASD until their older siblings graduate. For the graduating class of 2022 to move to NYCSD, their GPA would be dropped completely, due to the school’s policy of having to attend at the school for one semester their junior year in order to be able to keep your existing grade point average.

“I feel that they should have dropped this fight a long time ago so students wouldn’t be moving for their junior or senior years next year,”  said sophomore Faith Sterner, who feels that this “switch” is unnecessary and that the school districts shouldn’t have drawn the fight out this long. Students throughout the building have mixed opinions on the switch; some have applied and plan to stay in Dover to end their high school career while others will have a fresh start next year at Northern.
