On March 19th, 2025, Dover Area High School’s Class Act Beverages was recognized by the Shippensburg Superintendent Study Council. That same day, CAB received a $1,000 grant from YCAL, which will be used to expand the beverage menu.
Classroom teacher Amanda Oswalt commented on the recognitions, “It was an honor to be recognized as an exemplary program among other districts. I feel what we do is great, so it was nice hearing it from someone else that they thought it was great also.”
The students in this program enjoy being able to go to school every day and make drinks for the teachers. One of the students, senior Trent Roberts, felt overjoyed upon being presented the grant. The grant will go towards producing beverages such as milkshakes, smoothies, boba teas and coffees. Making these different drinks and learning to keep ingredients in stock has been a challenge; the students and staff within CAB are allowed to go shopping once a month to restock.
This program has played a major role in helping students with disabilities learn, memorize, think critically and experience what a job is like. The students who take part in this program have been able to show their capabilities and willingness to grow and learn. The determination these students bring to the CAB Cafe has had quite the impact on the staff close to them.
Roberts comes to school every day ready to serve. “I have confidence, and I do my best and I follow the directions, or I’ll listen great, and do all I can,” he said. He believes that the people who have influenced him most are Oswalt and his friends, like senior Dakota Lingg, senior Alice Payton and sophomore Cooper Shank.
