The boys soccer team finished with a 3-10-1 season. Boys soccer coach Derek Kline said, ”My initial feelings were a bit sad that I wouldn’t be able to coach the seniors again and also disappointed that we didn’t win more games. But after giving it some time, I now feel our season was stronger than I originally thought. Every game was close. Every opposing team had to earn the victory.”
Kline thinks the pressure the team put on itself to win sometimes distracted them. He said, “We created an unnecessary pressure to win but failed to recognize what playing this game is truly about and why we play in the first place.”
Senior soccer player Carter Fennen said, “I feel the season went mediocre at best. We had our great moments where we actually built as a team and held close games, but we found it difficult to dig deep in the crucial moments and pull out of deficits.”
Though the team didn’t win many games, Fennen thinks he’s learned a lot from playing. He said, “Soccer has taught me the fundamentals of hard work, dedication to a craft, and just how important sacrifice is in order to be great at something.”
Senior soccer player Aiden Shepro said, “The season had lots of ups and downs as we entered it thinking we would be a strong contender, but ended up facing lots of trouble against other teams.”
Shepro also appreciates the life skills he learned from playing soccer. He said, “Soccer, through my coaches, has taught me lots of life skills. It took me just to this year to fully learn to keep a cool head, and I am able to transfer that to my everyday life.”
