Set, hut! Senior Aric Campbell has recently set the school record in passing yards and touchdowns. When Campbell was six years old, he fell in love with football, and since then, the game has meant a great deal to him.
Quarterback Coach Jack Hertzog has worked with Campbell for the past three years and has seen growth on and off the field, in and out of the classroom. Hertzog states, “He has shown that he is a respectful and responsible member of the Dover community. To me, that means more than anything he has accomplished on the field.”
In his freshman year, Campbell got playing time as a varsity quarterback. Hertzog states, “Coming in as a freshman and getting playing time as a varsity quarterback is a tall task; however, being in school with all the noise and distractions as a freshman varsity quarterback is even harder.”
Campbells’s attitude is infectious on the team and has permitted the team’s staff to have confidence that they can handle whatever gets thrown at them under those Friday night lights. Hertzog states, “He comes to practice every day to work, and he understands that this is a game, but it’s also a game that relies on winning.” Campbells’s consistent leadership and constant focus on improvement adds to the team’s morale.
After high school, Campbell plans on going to college to continue his path in football. For now, he is focused on this season, stating, “I hope that we make it past the second round of playoffs.”
Hertzog has high hopes for Campbell in whatever he decides to do, whether it’s continuing his path in football or not. He states, “Working with Aric has been a true pleasure. To see him grow from when I met him until now is truly great; I believe whatever he does in life, he will be successful as he has all the traits and characteristics to achieve his goals and dreams.”
