Three Eagles Accepted Into All-National Choir

The National Association for Music Education All-National Mixed Choir is comprised of the best high school voices around America. Here at Dover High School we are honored to have three students who have been selected to be a part of this musical endeavor, seniors Sadie Roser and Ronan Mailey and junior Bobby Repp.

Roser stated that the students who have been picked, “do workshops, clinics, and rehearsals with special guest conductors. With their guest conductors they prepare a few pieces to perform after the festival. Typically it would be held in person (this year in San Diego), however it is now a virtual event due to covid.”

All three of these amazing singers had to be accepted into All-State Vocal Jazz or All-State Choir before entering the audition. This year’s audition was held virtually due to covid. Each member had to send a recording of about two songs. Typically, the audition would’ve been held at one of the schools in York County.

Mailey said that the most challenging part was, “learning the songs because of the increased difficulty after making each choir. The rhythms and interval changes increased in difficulty each time as well.”

Roser is going to take her next steps after high school in attending college as a double major in music education and vocal performance.

Mailey is interested in making it to districts and state auditions this year. He also wants to be in the school musical this year, however, after this year he does not plan on pursuing his music career.

Repp hopes to make state, regional, or national choir as a senior next year. He isn’t sure about college, but he wants “to grow [his] love for singing.”

The students have relied heavily on the music educators here to help them get to where they are. Mailey said, “she (Samantha Roberts) always had faith in us and pushed us to audition because she saw potential in us that we didn’t see.”
